In the snows of deepest Russia, in the depths of a dark forest, 200 years ago, on a cold winter's night, a big husky mongrel dog in a collar stands between a sleigh and three large wolves blocking its path. In the sleigh are two pretty Russian girls, and the mustachioed old Russian soldier who drives the sleigh, all of them wrapped in furs and fur hats. Drawing the sleigh is a fine horse attached to the sleigh which is huddled alongside the sleigh in fright and confusion, on the far side of the sleigh from the viewer. The three angry vicious wolves is facing the sleigh in confrontation, threatening attack, snarling, slavering and hungry. The faithful dog guarding the sled and opposing them is badly outmatched and knows it, but he bares his teeth and snarls fierce defiance at the wolf pack, blocking their attack.
