In the snows of deepest Russia, in the depths of a dark forest, 200 years ago, on a cold winter's night, a skinny mongrel dog stands between a sleigh and a pack of wolves which has surrounded it. In the sleigh are two pretty Russian girls, their mother, and the mustachioed old Russian soldier who drives the sleigh, all of them wrapped in furs and fur hats. Drawing the sleigh is a fine horse which is rearing in confusion, its path blocked. The pack of angry vicious wolves is facing the sleigh in confrontation, threatening attack, slavering and hungry. The faithful dog guarding the sled and opposing them is badly outmatched and knows it, but he bares his teeth and snarls fierce defiance at the wolf pack. He will make them pay before he goes down.
